Job Description

A third engineer, also known as a third assistant engineer, is a junior officer in the engine department of a ship who is responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the vessel's engineering systems and spaces:

Maintenance

Performs maintenance and repair on assigned equipment, such as auxiliary engines, diesel generators, pumps, boilers, and sewage treatment plants

Watchkeeping

Participates in engine room watchkeeping duties to ensure the safe and efficient performance of the main engine, generators, and other machinery

Safety

Understands the company's safety management system and maintains knowledge of ship emergency procedures

Record keeping

Keeps a daily log of engineering work onboard and records chemicals, lube oil tests, and other information

Training

May provide training to cadets or fourth engineers

Skills and Qualifications:

AT LEAST 18 MONTHS OF EXPERIENCE AS THIRD ENGINEER

WITH OR WITHOUT VALID US VISA 

HOLDING VALID DOCUMENTS
