Job Description

  • To help the Chief Engineer, receive orders, lead and supervise subordinates, ensure that operation and maintenance of machinery and equipment under the responsibility of the Engine Department are carried out efficiently, administer the Engine Department, and ensure that all personnel in the department thoroughly understand orders, rules and notifications.
  • To operate and maintain the main engine and associated auxiliaries.
  • To carry out work plans and rationalization plans required for understanding the present conditions of the machinery and equipment under the responsibility of the engine Department.
  • To personally operate the main engine when it is being tested, or at other important periods, if necessary; to personally direct the maintenance of important parts.
  • Upon detecting a deficiency in machinery or equipment under his responsibility, to report immediately to the Chief Engineer.
  • To personally inform the Deck Department when operating or turning the main engine and check if there are any objections.
  • To perform the necessary watch keeping duties. (GBLT 0406-1)
  • To manage lubricating oil and oversee the acceptance of the oil.
  • To carry out engine trials after ensuring that the Chief Officer and the Chief Engineer are present during the trials.
  • To help the Chief Engineer conserve the use of ship's stores under responsibility of the engineer Department.

Skills and Qualifications:

AT LEAST 18 MONTHS OF EXPERIENCE AS 2ND ENGINEER

WITH OR WITHOUT VALID US VISA 

HOLDING VALID DOCUMENTS
